Subject to a patent, the WABSIC- Wheel and Brake System Integrated Components - developed by Messier-Bugatti and adopted by Airbus on the A380 is an excellent example of modular integration in landing gear monitoring systems.
Two functions are combined in a single piece of equipment (representing a single unit):
Wheel rotation speed measurement (annular genetachy)
Tyre pressure measurement (TPMS NG).
In addition, the brake cooling system (Brake Cooling Fan or BCF) is compatible with WABSIC.
Apart from the overall simplification, particularly from the point of view of maintenance, this integration results in weight reduction and also maintains the accessibility of each component (the equipment can be removed as a single unit, providing easy access to each function).
