Long-haul aircraft wheels consist of two dissymetrical half-wheels in aluminium. As an aircraft tyre distorts very little, it would be impossible to mount it on a complete wheel. The larger half-wheel is therefore slipped into the uninflated tyre and the other half is then bolted solidly against the former. The tyre is then inflated with nitrogen to a pressure of around ten bars.
Finally, the assembly is mounted on the brake, installed on the axle.
